“It’s a fez, I wear a fez now… Fezzes are cool”
(The Big Bang, Doctor Who, 2010)

Flip top mitts featuring Matt Smith’s bowtie and favourite fez. This pattern idea to me in a flash and I laughed out loud - I hope you do too! Mitts flip towards front of hand & fasten with buttons so as not to obscure bowtie ^_^

Materials:
3.5mm circular (or dpns) + spare needle/waste yarn
2 stitch markers
2 buttons

Skills required
Being comfortable working on circular needle (or dpns)
knit
purl
inc – knit into front and back of stitch
ssk – slip, slip, knit
k2tog – knit two sts together

Ideas for modifications
Sew on red lines for suspenders or add a tassel to the top of the fez.

Make a longer thumb by slipping the 10 12, 14 thumb sts on to waste yarn, casting on a couple of extra sts, and knitting some more thumb rows before casting off.

Change the mitts to flip the other way if desired.

Erratum
23june version had a miscount in the final count for left thumb sts med & large sizes, this has been fixed and the thumb cast off reworded in the 29june version.
