This is a fundraising Pattern for my late brother, Mino (1971-2004).

“Mischievous Tricky” is an asymmetrical boomerang-shaped shawl with seven stripes. There are many “mischiefs” in this simple garter stitch shawl--the first half and the second half are not identical, the increase and decrease edges are not identical, yet the one side of the shawl has a consistent picot edging. Seven stripes gradually increase in a contrasting color and the shawl ends with the contrasting color. Why 7 stripes? Mino’s birthday is in July.

Mino was mischievous.

Tricky is one of Mino’s favorite trip hop musicians. His album “Maxinquaye” was mentioned in Mino’s Ph.D. thesis and his first and last book “Gurindji Journey” as one of his favorite albums in the author’s acknowledgement: “…I played it a hundred times while driving, reading, thinking, and writing.”

All the proceeds of this pattern will be donated to the Minoru Hokari Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Australian National University. My late brother, Minoru Hokari (“Mino” 1971-2004) died of cancer at the age of 32. The scholarship fund supports young scholars who study Indigenous Australians through fieldwork. We are trying to fully fund it to achieve its perpetuity. Please help.
