This pattern has been re-released as part of the new book She Made Them Her Own: The Best of Trudy Van Stralen.

Sasha was first sketched by Trudy on a small piece of paper in a daytimer notebook while sitting in the waiting room of a doctor’s office. Before going ahead she knit a sample of all the lace patterns in the skirt, keeping the top lace with less ruffle in it so that it wouldn’t add inches to your midsection yet would hide anything you may want hidden. From there a doll sized sample was knit in order to see how it all went together before the actual skirts were first knit. When knitting the full length skirt we realized that the row gauge changed with the weight of the linen. The pattern was adjusted accordingly for the long skirt. When you pick up a Sasha it may feel heavy, yet once you put it on you almost feel like you aren’t wearing anything.
