Pattern Description from Interweave Knits, Summer 2009: “Nichola Thompson designed the Spidery Tank for maximum versatility: A large-scale lace pattern, knitted in the round, covers the tunic-length tank that can be layered over tanks, tees, or dresses. Clean racer-back straps are grafted together at the shoulders for complete reversibility.”

Finished Size: 34 (36¾, 39½, 42¼, 45¼)“ bust circumference. Tank shown measures 34”, modeled with zero ease.

Yarn: GGH Linova (74% cotton, 26% linen; 109 yd 100 m/50 g): #25 pink, 5 (6, 6, 7, 7) balls. Yarn distributed by Muench Yarns.

Needles:

  • Ribbing and shaping—size 7 (4.5 mm): 24” circular (cir).
  • Body—size 10 (6 mm): 24” cir.
  • Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Markers (m); stitch holders; tapestry needle.

Additional Gauge: 17 sts and 17 rnds = 4” in lace patt on larger needle.

Notes:

  • This top is designed to be reversible. The pattern is written with non-lace portions in reverse stockinette; the garment is shown “inside out” with non-lace portions showing in stockinette.
  • Top is worked in one piece in the round with minimal shaping. To make a shorter version, omit a pattern repeat. To make a longer version, either add another full repeat or a half repeat by ending with Round 9. Each pattern repeat measures about 4” long. If making a longer version, be sure to purchase extra yarn.
  • When binding off stitches, knit into the back loop of the stitch; the bind-off will not twist to the front as much.
