Pattern Four from the Sweet Treats Collection

When I spied this yarn in my local yarn shop I knew it must come home with me. Being the ice cream junkie that I am, I had immediately been struck by a craving for an ice cream sundae, but the yarn was far less calories, so my purchase was rationalized as a means of weight loss. When I held the skein in my hands it kept telling me “hat.” I fought the urge for a little while, but eventually I conceded, realizing that the yarn was right. A simple hat would be a great way to show off the colors that had first attracted me to this skein.

Everyone needs to have a few simple yet effective patterns to fall back on when you just need to let your mind wander. The Sundae Slouch Hat is just such a design.

Sundae is worked from the bottom up in simple garter and stockinette stitch. Techniques used include knitting and purling in the round, make one increases, and decreases (see Stitch Guide for instructions). Simple, repetitive stitches makes this a good design for a knitter who is just learning to work in the round.

  • Semi-Sweet Hat

  • Lady Grey Legwarmers
