Tofino is a famous town amongst winter storm watchers. This super bulky cowl is such a quick knit, it’ll be done before the storm hits, with sweeping, extended cables reminiscent of wind-driven waves.

CONSTRUCTION
This quick and easy cowl is knit in the round and features an elongated 3 stitch over 3 stitch cable. To increase or decrease the cowl circumference, adjust the cast on number by a multiple of 6 stitches; then follow the pattern as written.

DESIGNER’S NOTES:

  • I was able to knit this on a 32” circular needle (that’s what I had) but a 24” would be ideal.
  • Gauge is not super important for this pattern, so if you have a #15 or a #19 and don’t want to buy another needle, that’s a-okay.
  • I did not actually use a cable needle -- I was able to just slip the stitches onto my right pinky finger instead of a cable needle, and then I put them back onto my left needle to knit them. The stitches are huge so this worked well for me!
  • The additional wraps will naturally tighten down around the cable of the needle. Then when they hit the needle join, you have to wiggle them quite a bit to get them back up onto the fatter needle. A needle with a fatter cable will minimize this, but just know it’s part of the deal with this pattern. Admittedly, it’s kind of annoying, but you don’t have to do it that many times, and it’s still a super quick knit!
  • Once I had the pattern finalized, this only took about an hour to actually knit up!
