YARN
One skein of your favorite bulky yarn should suffice, depending on size adjustments.

Version 1: Araucania Yarns Azapa (198yd/100g; 45% Merino Wool, 30% Alpaca, 15% Silk, 10% Donegal Wool), one skein
I didn’t have a scale to measure weight used, so I’m unsure exactly how much I used. I was able to make an iPod cozy and still have leftover yarn.

Version 2: Knit Picks Swish Bulky (137yd/100g; 100% Fine Superwash Merino Wool), one skein
Finished mittens with buttons weigh 86.49g. I forgot to weigh the skein before beginning, but I had 19.22g remaining.

NEEDLES
US 6/4mm and US 7/4.5mm DPNs

GAUGE
US7/4.5mm unblocked: 2” (5cm) = 9 stitches, 13 rows stockinette

SIZE
Version 1: 10½“ long (cuff is 3”) and 3¼“ wide
Version 2: 11“ long (cuff is 3.5”) and 3¼“ wide

PATTERN ATTRIBUTIONS
This pattern uses the owl portion from Sara Amoroso’s Who? hat and the gusset & decrease from Jocelyn Tunney’s Give a Hoot mittens (both are also free).

Errata (2022-Oct-27)
There were several copy/paste and omission errors in the owl portion, particularly with needles 3 & 4, rounds 13 and 16-19. Some of the increases leaned the wrong way or did not specify. I updated yarn and measurements, added gauge, more notions and abbreviations, and notes with options. I also made the file accessible.

Errata (2022-Oct-29)
I added a mitten version with stitch markers instead of needle number references. I also made the notes footnotes for better accessibility and indicated where to add button eyes.
