Marlaina "Marly" Bird

Marlaina “Marly” Bird fled the world of financial services to launch her Yarn Thing podcast and hasn’t looked back since. To Marly, a bi-craftsy girl who both knits and crochets, the yarn is the star, not how you work with it. She’s creative director for Bijou Basin Ranch Yarns and the co-author of Curvy Crochet (Leisxure Arts, 2011). You’ve seen her designs in Knit Simple, Interweave Crochet, Knitscene, Inside Crochet, Wild Fiber and Petite Purls, and in the books Perfectly Plus and Knitting Plus. In her spare time she raises three kids in suburban Denver.

When Marly was asked about a typical day for her, she answered: There is no such thing as a typical day at the office for me. Since this has become a full time job I notice that each day is totally different and brings its own challenges. If I’m not answering email I am writing patterns and getting yarn ready to be shipped to contract knitters and crocheters; or I am sketching a design idea and swatching with new yarn; or I’m finishing up a project that has to get to fed-ex before the 7:30pm last pick up. I am always busy. I don’t even know how I do it half the time!
