This pattern is for a warm, cozy and very stretchy cowl / infinity scarf that is done in crochet but imitates a knitted stockinette stitch.

It uses 2 strands of Aran-weight yarn (I suggest Caron Simply Soft for its silky feel with a slight sheen, but any Aran-weight yarn will work). Both strands are crocheted together. Crocheted in the round with a right and a wrong side, and with an “invisible” joining technique to create a less obvious straight seam.

Stitches you should be familiar with:

  • Chain (CH)
  • Slip Stitch (SS)
  • Half-Double Crochet (HDC)

Special Stitches with instructions:

  • Foundation Half Double Crochet
  • Back-Bar Only Half Double Crochet
  • “Invisible” Joining technique - instructions w/ photo tutorial

Sizes:

Cowl - 25” circumference, 9” high - This is a neck warmer that slips over the head.

Small - 66” circumference, 7” wide - This is a circle/infinity scarf (with no twist) that wraps twice.

Large - 88” circumference, 7” wide - This is a circle/infinity scarf (with no twist) that wraps thrice.

You’ll need one skein per color. Easy to adjust size by adding or subtracting initial foundation half-double crochet stitches or rows, but sizes given allow you to finish in one skein of each color of Caron Simply Soft, which has 315 yards per skein. If you use a different yarn with lower yardage, you’ll need additional skeins.
