Pattern description from Knit.1, Winter 2007/2008: “Hooray for hip-to-hip hipness in the shape of a crocheted fan-stitch skirt, in ‘Hubro’ by Dale of Norway. Shiri Mor played with the shaded using free-form-style colorwork, merging ruby and indigo in the chained drawstring.”

Gauge: 3 fans and 6 rnds to 5”/12.5cm over pat st using size N/15 (10mm) crochet hook.

Notions: four large safety pins and four small hang tags

Notes from Knit.1, Winter 2007/2008:

  1. “The skirt is made in one piece from waistband to bottom edge.”
  2. “The skirt is worked in the round in a continuous spiral; there are no joined rnds.”
  3. “To prevent cutting and joining colors, or having long floats, you will be working with 4 balls of yarn: 2 Ruby (colors A and C) and 2 Indigo (colors B and D). keep in mind that you will be working with only one color at a time.”
  4. “To keep track of the colors, mark hang tags A, B, C, and D. Attach each hang tag to a safety pin.”
  5. “You will make the waistband first, then join yarn to the waistband to work the skirt section. After you join and work A, remove lp from crochet hook and place it on the A safety pin. After you join and work B, remove lp from crochet hook and place it on the B safety pin. Cont to work in the same manner for C and D.”
  6. “As you work around, use the color stated in the instructions, keeping the lps of those colors not in use on their own safety pins.”
