This is an adult-sized version of the little bonnet I designed to go with Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Baby Surprise Jacket. Worked in 4 sections, using either held or picked up stitches from the previous section(s), this project is completely seamless.

One size fits most adults.

Gauges per 1” garter stitch:
2 (2.5, 3, 3.5, 4), (4.5, 5, 5.5, 6), (6.5, 7, 7.5, 8)

Tip: How to read the different sizes in the pattern.
Let’s say that your yarn & needles gives you a gauge of 1” = 3.5 sts, in garter stitch. Then you would use the 4th number in every set of numbers. If you go through and circle the 4th number throughout the pattern (i.e. the 3rd number in the first set of brackets), that will give you the correct stitch and row counts for your gauge.

These are also colour & underline coded in the actual pattern, to make it easier to find your numbers!

Materials:

  • any yarn, from fingering weight to Super Bulky
  • needles appropriate for your yarn – you will need 2 circulars and a set of DPNs. The extra circulars are just to hold sts, so can be any smaller size NOTE: you may find it easiest if you use 16” circulars and 10” DPNs.

Stitches & Techniques:
knit (K), purl (P), make 1 (M1), slip-slip-knit (ssk), and i-cord
I used a backward (back-to-front) YO for the M1 increases, worked as normal sts in the next round.
