Advent Calendar 2010 in 1:12th scale
This pattern was originally published on our blog pages as the 2010 Advent Calendar
This year’s calendar made a set of four 1/12th scale brick toys with alphabet, numbers, textures and geometric shape designs for a dolls house. Each brick is made up of 6 small squares which when stitched together will make a cube.
The designs of the squares are kept simple, so no matter how rushed you are preparing for Christmas this year, you can find ½ an hour a day to sit and relax with some miniature knitting. This also gives you the option, should you prefer not to knit certain types of pattern, to duplicate and substitute a pattern for a square you like in another colour.
Please note: The squares may have different numbers of stitches and rows required for each pattern, in order to keep the square shape. Due to the limited number of stitches and nature of the toy, lace stitches have been excluded from the designs. Row 1 is always the right side of the work.
Each finished square will measure approx ½-inch/1.25 cm when knitted with size 21 (0.80 mm) knitting needles
The knitting is done using
One pair of size 21 (0.80 mm) knitting needlesand 1-ply yarn in 4 colours plus white), small amounts of stuffing material.
Charts
Where more than one colour is used in a row, charts are given as well as a written pattern. Charts are not given for other patterns
Sizing note:
Although instructions and materials are given for the 1:12th scale size, these blocks can be made smaller by using size 24 (0.5 mm/US size 8/0) and No 80 crochet cotton or much larger by using thicker yarn and needles. The same pattern is used for all sizes
