This stripe pattern is inspired by fouta or peshtemal towels, sometimes called Turkish towels when you see them in decor and gift shops here in North America. Made from 100% cotton, they are absorbent and fold up small, so they are ideal for trips to the beach and the pool.

This could be a baby or stroller blanket, but we also love it for early morning porch sitting, and keeping off the chill after a long day at the beach.

An easy 1-row repeat of garter stitch gives a satisfying texture, and an i-cord edging that’s knit as you go lends a refined feel. Knit to our dimensions, you’ll have enough left over to add twisted tassels if desired, or add length if you wish.
