Aqua Tide is a long and narrow asymmetrical triangle wrap featuring a light and airy, wavy shell stitch pattern and a slightly rippled fabric. It’s finished with a simple chain-stitch edging and border. The wrap is reversible; the two sides are distinctly different, but “right” and “wrong” sides are a matter of preference.

The pattern includes both one- and two-skein versions, but you can work it to any length you’d like.

This pattern uses American crochet terminology.

Skill Level: Intermediate. While only simple stitches are used, focus is needed to work the complex increases on the diagonal edge. (A partial stitch diagram is included to provide a visual of the increases.)

Finished Sizes (after blocking)
Size 1 (one skein - neck wrap): 23” wide / 43” long (straight edge) / 48 3/4” diagonal edge.
Size 2 (two skeins - shawl; shown in photos): 28” wide / 57” long (straight edge) / 63 1/2” diagonal edge.
Instructions are written for Size 1; instructions for Size 2 are in parentheses ().

Yarn: Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light fingering- weight yarn (100% merino wool; 420 yd 384 m): 1 (2) skeins (shown in color Havana).

Hook Size: 7 (4.5 mm).

Notions: Yarn needle.

Gauge (unblocked): Two pattern reps on the shell row = 3 1/4”; 8 rows in pattern = 3”. Precise gauge is not critical for this project; however, making and blocking a gauge swatch (instructions included) will give an idea of how much the lace will open up and grow in length (and can help in choosing your hook size if substituting yarn). Gauge will narrow and lengthen with blocking and further with wear; the finished wrap will be a few inches longer than as crocheted. Blocked gauge for the sample was approximately 3 1/2” / 2 pattern reps and 3 1/2” / 8 rows.

Wet-blocking (or spritz-blocking) is highly recommended to open up the lace and to smooth out the fabric.
