The cardigan body is worked flat in one piece from the bottom up with a garter stitch border followed by a lace and cable pattern. Back and fronts are separated at the underarms and worked separately flat then joined again at the shoulders. The circular needle is necessary to accomodate the large number of stitches. Mid-length sleeves are worked by picking up sts around the armholes and have a garter stitch border at the cuff. Stitches are also picked up around the neckline and a garter stitch border is added. During the armhole, neck and shoulder shaping, when there are not enough stitches to work a cable or complete both a yo and its paired decrease, work these stitches in St st instead.

This pattern features in Issue 87 of Knit Now, which is on sale from 19th April in supermarkets, newsagents and craft stores across the UK. Find your nearest UK stockist here. Copies can also be ordered from MoreMags or if you prefer, digital editions are available via PocketMags.
