Newborn hat, (14” or 35.5 cm), use 4.0 mm (G)
0-3 mos, (16” or 40.5 cm) hat, use 4.0 mm (G)
3-6 mos, (17.5” or 44.5 cm) hat, use 5.0 mm (H)
6-12 mos, (19” or 48 cm) hat, use 5.5 mm (I)

Skeins: One 2.5 oz skein (Main Color), additional colored skeins (or partial skeins) for stripes:
Variation One: one additional color
Variation Two: three additional colors

I recommend using Newborn size for preemies and for brand-new babies (ei: going home from the hospital). The newborn size will not fit a healthy baby for very long!

This pattern is good for using some scraps, because the stripes don’t take a whole lot of yarn.
