This PDF pattern is written in English for intermediate knitters knitting flat on two needles. It comes in two parts:

  1. General instructions, which include: Body and leg variations, assembly instructions, special stitch and technique instructions
  2. Specific animal instructions for shaping animal head and tail, other animal-specific details

The beaver is one of my more difficult patterns because of the crisscross stitch tail and the picot edge teeth. I love the effect they give, though. Did you know that beavers’ teeth are actually orange? And with them, a single beaver can topple an 8-foot tree in just a few minutes!

You need to have…
• Yarn in desired color and weight (~3oz/75g for sport weight; ~12oz/300g for worsted)
• Dark contrast yarn for eyes and nose
• Knitting needles at the size recommended for the yarn you’ll use (for the tail) and at least 2 sizes smaller (for everything else)
• Stuffing
• Tapestry needle

You need to know (or learn)…
• Stockinette stitch
• Increase and decrease stitches
• Crisscross stitch for tail (explained in pattern)
• Picot edging for teeth (explained in pattern)
• Mattress stitch for sewing seams
