Black walnut is a textured, circularly knit infinity scarf that is light weight, but warm and squishy, and generally wonderful! It features two simple lace patterns that combine to make a reversible, stretchy scarf that can be worn long or doubled up.

The pattern is written for one size (as shown), because I feel that’s how it looks best. Instructions are given for shortening or lengthening the scarf.

The pattern calls for a second set of US 10 circular needles to use during grafting; if you don’t have a second set of them, using a smaller size is fine.

Although Wool Ease is classified on this site as Aran weight, I personally feel it is closer to a worsted weight, and recommend you use worsted. An aran weight yarn will create a more dense material, and the scarf will be larger and heavier.

  • If you don’t want to work a long graft at the end, the instructions to include an optional standard cast on

  • This pattern has been test knit

  • Some testers found they preferred the gauge achieved with 8’s

  • Yarns used for testing included Wool-Ease, Red Heart Soft, Paton’s Classic Worsted, and Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Worsted - All testers were happy with the fabrics made from these yarns

::Designer’s Note (13 November 2016): I’ve raised the yardage requirements by about 75 yards because some crafters have found they used over 500 yards of yarn::
