1) It says to “ch 2, skip first hdc, hdc in next 5 hdc…” If you do this, the edges start to angle in (you keep decreasing, I guess). Maybe I’m reading the pattern wrong, but I think it’s a mistake to skip the first hdc and so I didn’t when I made mine.

2) The instructions are a little confusing, but to clarify something that messed me up a couple times:
“FPtr around next 2 sts 2 rows below, skip next 2 sts 2 rows below, FPdtr around next 2 sts 2 rows below, working behind last 2 sts made, FPdtr in each of the 2 skipped sts 2 rows below..”
--> when it says to work behind, this is the instructions for what comes after it, not before. The instructions are a run-on sentence, so sometimes it’s hard to tell.
