I included pictures of both the pink set and the multi colored set in the pattern. The hat is the same with both samples and the scarves are two different lengths, both of which are included in the pattern as well.

It is an easy knit and you will have it done in no time flat. Just over 1 ball of the Plymouth Yukon Print is needed for the hat, so your scarf will be at least 3.5” as pictured or wider. Or, you need 120 yards of super bulky yarn for the scarf and 69 (74, 81, 86) yards for the hat. For both hat and scarf you need 189 (194, 201, 206) yards. 10% is added to the numbers for personal knitting variance.

The sample is knit in the adult large size. There are four hat sizes total in the pattern.

Specifics:

Skill Level: (1 Easy - 4 Advanced): 2 Experienced Beginner

Description: Hat knit flat and then seamed. Scarf knit lengthwise.

Yarn used for multi colored sample: Plymouth Yarn Yukon Print, 35% Mohair, 35% Wool, 30% Acrylic

Each ball: 100 grams, 3.5 ounces, approximately 60 yards, color #8001

Yardage: Scarf 120 yards (2 balls) Hat 69 (74, 81, 86) yards (2 balls)

Total Yardage, Hat & Scarf: 189 (194, 201, 206)
10% added for personal knitting variance

Hat:

Needles: size US size 13, straight, or size needed for gauge

Gauge: 2.5 stitches + 3 rows = 1” in broken rib (k3, p1) pattern

Sizes: 16.5” small child (18” large child, 19.5” medium adult, 21” large adult )

Directions are for 16.5” child small with 18” large child, 19.5” medium adult, 21” large adult in ( ). Because the broken rib pattern stretches significantly, each size stretches up to 2” larger than the stated size (16.5” will stretch up to 18.5”, etc.). When only one number is listed, it applies to all sizes.

Sample knit in the 21” adult large size.

Notions: yarn needle to seam

Scarf:

Needles: size US 13, 29” circular or longer, or size needed for gauge

Note: Circular needles are needed to accommodate large number of stitches; scarf is knit lengthwise. Do not join, but knit as if using straight needles.

Gauge: 2.5 stitches = 1” in broken rib pattern (k3, p1)

Dimensions: approximately 3.5” x 80”, slightly stretched

The pink set (using Cascade Lana Grande) used the same pattern for the hat, but a shorter scarf. The hat is the same size in both samples, the 21” adult large. The Cascade Lana Grande version was published in the 2010 Knitting Calendar.
