A long time ago in China, there lived a man called Tan. Tan’s greatest possession was a fine ceramic tile. One day Tan was carrying his tile to show the emperor. He tripped and the tile fell and broke into seven geometric shapes: two large triangles, a medium size triangle, two small triangles, a square, and a parallelogram. Tan spent the rest of his life trying to put the tile back together again. He was not successful, but he did succeed in creating many different geometric designs. Tan enjoyed creating the designs. His friends also enjoyed trying to recreate his designs. Tan’s puzzles, later called tangrams, were passed on through generations and from country to country. Tangrams are perhaps the oldest and most enduring of all geometric puzzles.

So I did the same as Tan and created this design as a wearable version of a tangram. I arranged the parts so that they can be joined while knitting and no sewing is required.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
approx. 201 cm/ 79” length at the longest point, 41 cm/ 16” width at the widest point - Measurements taken after gentle blocking.

YARN
Any fingering weight yarn that gives you gauge, preferable a woolen yarn or a yarn which is able to keep the shape.

YARDAGE
Color A - approx. 300 meters/ 328 yards
Color B - approx. 360 meters/ 394 yards
Color C - approx. 300 meters/ 328 yards

NEEDLES
3.50 mm/ US4 needles or size to get gauge

GAUGE
24 sts x 48 rows = 10 cm/ 4” in garter stitch
Take time to check gauge .
The given gauge gives you a dense fabric that doesn´t wear out too much when worn. In case your gauge is a bit tighter, don´t worry, this also will be ok.
Avoid to have a looser gauge.

NOTIONS
A safety pin or removable marker, tapestry needle.
