What am I missing?
Cable hat (aran)
The pattern will be available soon.
Skill level: intermediate
You need to be able to knit in the round on dp and circular needles, use a provisional cast on method, and have some cable knitting experience.
Sizes
XS (S/M) L
To fit head circumference 50-53 (53-56) 56-59 cm, or 19.5-21 (21-22) 22-23 inches.
Finished measurements:
Brim circumference: 40 (43.5) 46.5 cm / 16 (17) 18.5 in.
Yarn:
Aran weight yarn: wool or wool blend.
Yarn amount needed: 236 (310) 310 metres /258 (340) 340 yards.
Gauge:
Main cable st (see page 2): 2 patt repeats (24 sts) = 10 cm/ 4 in, using 5 mm needles.
Stockinette st (brim): 18 st = 10 cm/ 4 in, using 5 mm needles.
(measured after washing and drying)
You might need to use different size needles to obtain the required gauge. Take time to make a gauge swatch, as incorrect gauge could result in the hat being too small or too large. Adjust needle size, if necessary.
You will also need:
5 mm circular needle (= main needle)
a set of 5 mm dp needles
4.5 mm dp needles (for brim facing)
5 mm cable needle
st marker
yarn needle (to thread yarn through centre sts)
scrap yarn
