The Teddy Bear Sweater and Hat each require 110 yds ’medium weight’ yarn, or 220 yds total for both.

Note: The Teddy Bear Sweater and Hat pattern by Linda Cyr is the toy-size version of her ’Cables with Heart - Child’s Cardigan and Hat’ pattern on page 90 (2nd ed. book). This is why the Teddy Bear pattern simply states ‘See p.90’ for yarn weight and pattern gauge.

It’s unfortunate that the two patterns are separated by a 3rd pattern, ’Cables with Heart - Child’s Pullover’ by Sue Mink, which calls for bulky weight yarn. This accounts for the confusion over yarn weight and gauge in the Teddy Bear pattern; it would have been clearer had the two similar patterns appeared back-to-back.

The design motifs in the Teddy Bear Sweater & Hat are identical to those in the Child’s Cardi & Hat. The only difference--other than garment size and style (pullover, not cardigan)--is that the Teddy Bear sweater is constructed with a saddle shoulder. (The Child’s Cardigan has a seamed shoulder with set-in sleeve.)

In the book photographs, the Teddy Bear sweater appears to have a mock-turtleneck or rolled-edge, but the pattern instructions make no mention of either. There is, however, a section in the instructions for a ‘Neckband’--suggesting that the band may just appear thicker because it is disproportionate to the rest of the sweater. It’s impossible to state with certainty, though, without clarification from the designer.

The Teddy Bear Sweater pattern includes charts, but no schematic.
