Caroline in my Mind is named for a Caroline I know who happens to have beautiful eyes, and needed a hat with just the right color to show them off. I designed a hat with a simple K1P1 rib to hold the hat snugly on the forehead. The body has a simple pattern stitch for texture right up to the crown.

I used Cascade Yarns Eco + 100% Peruvian Highland Wool in the colorway 9332 Sapphire but any bulky yarn can be substituted in the pattern.

The gauge is 18 sts/28 rnds = 4” (10cm) in pattern stitch. Note: it’s always a good idea to knit the gauge swatch in the round as you would for this hat and block it. Cascade Yarns Eco + tends to relax after blocking. Adjust needle size if necessary to get gauge.

The skill level of this pattern is suited to an advanced beginner familiar with a long tail cast on, joining for working in the round, knitting, purling, and decreasing. The pattern stitch is both charted and written out.

The finished measurements of the hat are:

Size Small: (age 8 to Size Small Teen):18” (46 cm) circumference, 9” (23 cm) height from bottom of hat to top of crown.

Size Medium: (Adult Woman): 19” (48 cm) circumference, 10” (25 cm) height.

Size Large: (Adult Man): 21” (53 cm) circumference, 10” (25 cm) height.
