This pattern was designed for Leslie Samson’s Angora Blizzard yarn in 2007 for the Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool Festival. She wanted something to give away with her yarn. I designed this for her to give away with her Angora Blizzard yarn which is a fingering weight with an 85% angora 15% superwash Merino wool.

Since then I have wanted to update it with a prettier cable for the top. The new revised pattern has better charts and a new Celtic star pattern for the top. The older spoked cable top is included in the pattern as an alternative.

The construction is a provisional cast on for the celtic cable band which is knitted flat first for the side of the hat. Then the band is kitchenered together and one edge is picked up to knit the top.

The pattern encompasses a number of intermediate knitting techniques including cables, kitchener stitch, short rows and provisional cast on. But hopefully it is written well enough for the adventurous beginner. I am always available for questions and comments. And I try to update as I get error reports in so that the best pattern possible is available for your knitting pleasure.

The size unstretched is about 22” in circumference and is generous enough to cover the ears. It stretches easily to a 26” head at least.
