Charlotte's Star Fingerless Gloves
Materials: I used two strands of fingering weight yarn and a 4.5mm hook, but dk is shown in some pictures and would be my preferred choice for this pattern, again used on a 4.5mm hook.
Stitches: I use American crochet terms. Yes i’m British but American crochet terms are far more prevalent in patterns and online tutorials, which is how I learnt. My pattern uses a mix of chains (ch), slip (ss or sl), single (sc), half double (hdc) and double (dc) crochet stitches. There are some excellent tutorials on youtube for learning how to do these. The star stitch is a special stitch which i have explained fully in the pattern. In time i hope to upload a video of how to do this stitch but i think it is fairly well explained and pictured here.
Sizing and Method: Starting at the cuff and working your way up the hand to the fingers, this is worked in the round, with no seams. The only sewing to do will be to weave in the ends. For an adult or teen you will want to work about 14cm in height before you do the thumb hole, for children you might want to gauge it on them as you go, but for a 4 year old i did just 5cm up to the thumb so their coat sleeves wouldn’t interfere with them.
