This whimsical little chicken adds a touch of country kitsch to your décor or cubicle at work. Fill the container with flowers, candy or stuff it for a cute chicken softie. The main body is knit is short rows with the top of the head knit onto the body, then joined with 3 needle bind off. The Wattle and the beak are picked up and knit directly on the head. Wattle, wings and tail feathers are knit separately and sew in place. The head is stuffed with a ball of yarn held in place by the button eyes thread going though the ball.

You will need:

About 3.5 oz worsted weight yarn for body and head
Scraps of other yarn for beak, wattle, tail and comb
Waste yarn
Size 8 needles, I suggest at least a 16” circular needle for the body and a set of 5 double pointed needles to work head section easier
Yarn and yarn scraps for making ball of yarn to stuff head or stuffing
Button or plastic eyes
Container, approx 16 oz, for holding flowers or candy
Stuffing for body if making as a softie.
Heavy sewing thread or elastic cord
Large sewing needle
