Color by Number patterns are made with striping, picked up stitches, and a couple yarn-carrying tricks to make for as little finishing as possible, no complex techniques like stranded knitting or intarsia!

This design is part of the Coloring Book ebook, which is a collection of knit accessory patterns all designed to make the most of your colors.

For the plaid loving knitter, this squishy garter stitch buttoning cowl uses five colors in a modular striping pattern to resemble a plaid fabric pattern!

The rectangle is made in long knitted strips of varying widths, which create the long horizontal stripes; each of those sections is striped as it’s knit, creating the vertical stripes - all matching up to make the plaid.

The size of this piece is easily adjustable, to get your favorite cowl style; you could even make it twice as long to make an extra warm and giant double-wrapping piece, for the coldest of climates.

This individual pattern is for just the Plaid Cowl; the complete Color by Number set includes the pattern for this cowl, along with the six other sample items and full customizing details.

Color chart
The color chart is given as a color-by-number grid, so that you can fill in the colors you want to use! At the end, you’ll find some blank drawings of the cowl with the color numbers filled in, so that you can break out the colored pencils and try out some ideas.

Sizing
The approximate size is 12 inches / 30 cm wide, 27 inches / 69 cm long.
To adjust width, you can adjust your gauge / yarn weight - use a lighter weight yarn for a more narrow cowl, or a bulky yarn for an extra big, squishy version.
To adjust the length, work to a different length in the first section (there are lengthening notes within the pattern).
