Friendly animals adorn this keepsake blanket for a baby or small child. To encourage play, the kangaroo has a pocket, the elephant, zebra and giraffe have swinging tails, the walrus has tusks, and the elephant has a swinging trunk.

The bodies of the animals are worked in intarsia and embellished with duplicate stitch and simple embroidery. Pinwheel decorations are embroidered.

The blanket can be worked in 3 strips or as one-piece. The Border is worked separately and sewn on. The sample shows 5 animals, but instructions are included for 6th animal, a zebra, that can replace any of the five other animals.

Materials needed are Cascade 200 Superwash worsted weight yarn. Yarn requirements specify a full skein of yarn for accent colors, but less than 100 yards is used of each, so consider using yarns from your stash.
