The Maniototo region of Central Otago, New Zealand is a stunning part of the world. It’s all mountains and arid valleys – icy and freezing in the winter months and dusty and scorching in the summer. A perfect place to grow sheep and an excellent setting for an ex railway line converted to a cycle trail. This cozy cabled headband is the perfect accessory on those trails in the chilly months. And such fun to knit!

It features a single cable that runs through the middle of the headband with a little ribbing on the edges. It’s a straight forward pattern repeat and I’ve been told that even newbies to cables can manage it nicely. There are good instructions, including a chart and a link to a tutorial on knitting cables.

I recommend a good firm block. Don’t be afraid to stretch it out. And use lots of pins!
