This pattern was designed for The Woolen Rabbit 2013 Yarn Club. It is now available for general sale on Ravelry.

Deco Fountains is a lovely crescent shawl with a dramatic center lace panel and border, worked top-down with a single skein of a luscious merino, silk, and cashmere blend. This shawl is for intermediate knitters.

I have always loved the swooping lines and strong graphics of art deco architecture. So when Kim asked me to participate in her yarn club celebrating the 1920s, I jumped at the chance to incorporate an art deco theme into a shawl. This crescent shawl uses a simple yet striking lace pattern known as “Fountains” due to its lovely swooping arches. The lace resembles cascading water when placed in the center panel of the shawl, with droplets of water echoing in the shawl border. The silver gray-blue that Kim came up is perfect for this design, bringing to mind both falling water and the shimmering crown of the Chrysler building, the most famous example of art deco building style.
