Imagine my amazement several months ago when a Twitter friend sent me a message saying that she wanted to put three vintage Dutch knitting books into good hands! I don’t speak Dutch, but I do speak knitting and I can understand many different styles of knitting charts. I also translate German knitting books into English for publishers, and Dutch is close enough to German that I could identify some of the key knitting terms in the text. I haven’t had time to do much research into the history of these books but I hope that one day in the not-too-far future, you’ll be reading more about them in these pages. For now, enjoy this lace scarf, combining two elegant vintage pattern stitches that fit together like hand in glove. I updated the style by making crescent shaping to give this scarf a modern twist.
