This project is an easy introduction to working with a stitch pattern and learning advanced techniques, such as picking up stitches.

The scarf is knit in a simple broken rib.

To make the hat, you’ll first knit the brim in a long strip. Then the ends of the brim are sewn together to create a circle. The rest of the hat is knitted on circular needles by picking up stitches from the brim.

The scarf is approximately 6-1⁄2”x72” (17cm x 183cm).
