This Fair Isle Hat pattern is designed using traditional motifs from the Island of Fair Isle, which is off the coast of Scotland. I have always loved the look of the traditional motifs from that area of the world. This hat is perfect for winter skiing, snowboarding or any other winter sports. It is worked in the round, using a colorwork technique I developed to help crocheters find a way to have their designs look almost as uniform as true stranded knitting. I love the fact that even though I am using fingering weight yarn, this hat will be warm and cozy. It looks complicated, but it is in fact rather easy to create using just single crochets worked in the back loop. Reading the chart will become easy as you go, since each colorwork row only has 2 colors and you can easily work over the top of the unused color. No strands on the inside of the hat to catch on anything!
