Written pattern is available with color chart for the purple, light blue & yellow hat. This is an interesting color motif that will challenge the skills of the more experienced crocheter.

Standard American crochet abbreviations and terminology are used in this pattern.

Skill Level - Intermediate

Stitches used slip stitch, half-double crochet, double crochet, FPDC, BPDC.

Yarn bobbins are optional to hold the different yarns, however, you can skip the bobbins and just separate your yarns into smaller balls to keep from getting tangled.

For the hot pink hat in the above photo, I used a 4.5mm hook, followed the pattern, however, it produced a toddler size hat approximately 17” circumference (according to www.craftyarncouncil.com head measurements).
Gauge changed to: 8 stitches 6 rows in 2 in. in half-double crochet.

Remember to always measure the recipient’s head with a tape measure across the forehead and around the full circumference of the head to get a more accurate measurement.

Please note that the size is approximate and will be affected by the gauge and the brand of yarn.

Tips:
Practice at minimum with a 2X2 in. swatch for the color stranding.
Have plenty of good lighting to see the stitch where your hook is going into.

Work only 2 colors per round.

To avoid tangling your yarns, keep your main color yarn strand closer to you while working the stitches and the 2nd color yarn away from you.
This process will give you looser “yarn floats” (changes of color yarn) on the inside of your hat.

Do not pull the yarn too tight when working 2 colors into the stitches or you will end up with a puckered fabric (I learned the hard way-that’s why I suggest a practice swatch).

Try to keep a constant tension in your crochet stitches to make your rounds look neat and smooth.
