This versatile reversible cable scarf looks great whether dressed up or down, from a casual to a more tailored look, for men or women. It shows off the pattern particularly well with solid light-to-medium colors, but it is also striking in a slightly heathered or tweedy yarn. It has both written-out instructions and a cable chart, and although some experience with charts is useful, this can also be a good project for practicing chart reading, too.

The difference in size between DK- and a light worsted-weight yarn is minimal; the DK version comes out about 5 1/2” wide, while the light worsted one is 6” wide.

Whether using light worsted or DK-weight, you will need 400-500 yds, which is usually about two skeins.

The gauge listed is for worsted-weight; for DK, it is 24 sts x 36 r/4” (10 cm) in moss st, which is used for the top, bottom, and side borders.

Needles: For DK, US 6 (3.75-4 mm) needle or size needed to get gauge. For light worsted, US 7 (4.5 mm).

Notions: Cable needle; measuring tape; tapestry needle; two sliding stitch markers and one coilless pin or locking stitch marker.
Optional: chart holder and highlighter tape
