I wanted to design a lighter shawl for those breezy, but warm days and use Shetland sts…not a purl in sight!
Continually inspired by the ancient architectural forms in places such as Morocco - I came upon the oldest standing university and library, the University of Al Quaraouiyine. Founded in 859 AD by Fatima-Al-Fihri - you go girl!

Diamonds, beads, optional nupps and garter lace galore!
This a pattern for an heart shaped shawl, all about Shetland garter lace forms combined to reflect the exquisite archaway of the University of Al Quaraouiyine.
Fatima is worked in garter st and utilizing more traditional Shetland lace sts. Working the lace weight yarn on larger needles means plenty of stretch when blocking.
The Original Fatima plus extra rows for Fatima 2.0 are now included in this pattern.

Feel free to share your project with the bunnymuff group.
If using fingering weight, you will need approx. 720yds/660 m and change needle size accordingly.
