The gage is not a big issue for this pattern as it is fulled (felted) after you knit it. This makes it an excellent first project for colour work, not to mention a wonderful stash-buster.

You knit it about one third larger than the desired finished size, then shrink it by fulling it (method described in pattern). It is very important that you use 100% wool yarn, the less processed the better as over processed yarn will not work.
