Popular in the 1920’s and trending now is the Newsboy Cap. Although it was originally for the working class men, the shape transitioned to the upper English class men and now it is popular with women also. Names such as Baker Boy, Cabbie, Gatsby, Pageboy and Poor Boy Cap are associated with the Newsboy Cap. Similarities and slight differences are common among the hats. The characteristics include high tops, flat tops, rounded or peaked. All have front brims.

You can choose to have a rounded top or a top with peaks and valleys. Wear it straight or at an angle. Or even backwards.

This is a fun hat for men, women, teens.

After much experimentation, I developed this style which is a modern interpretation on the 1920’s style. It is a quick and easy knit and felt hat. No special hat shapers are needed. My instructions are detailed and include comprehensive information for selecting yarn and felting. Read through this pattern to become familiar with the pattern, types of yarn, and the felting process. The Notes and Felting Sections have information that is important to successfully knitting and felting hats.

Optional front cord and button instructions are included. They require basic crochet abilities.
