A celebration of two hemispheres, Festive Wrap is designed in collaboration with a trio of dyers from northern America and myself, an Australian designer.
I began by curating two sets of beautiful yarn for this December design to reflect the Summer I enjoy and the Winter my northern hemisphere fiber friends are snuggling into. I asked Neighbourhood Fibre co. if they would create two gradient sets, each with six colours; one for Winter and one for Summer. Building on each of these beautiful sets I added rich, saturated shades from Moondrake co. and the final flourish to tie each set together is a selection of gorgeous speckle yarns from Madelinetosh.
The Winter set (AKA known as Buttermint on the Jimmy Beans Website) includes deep plum, crisp blues, icy whites, spruce green and the warm glow of yellow, reminiscent of candlelight reflecting on snow.
Summer (AKA Ribbon Candy) has the warm shades you would expect, evocative of long summer nights and ocean sunsets. Alternating through the colours, the pattern utilises slip stitches, texture and lace to make the most of each beautiful colour, creating a fiber love story that reaches across the oceans.

This is perfect project for you to create your own colour fiber love story. Each of the 16 lace segments will use a 20g mini, or 80 yards of fingering weight yarn. Use up those lovely end balls you’ve been saving for something special, add in a full skein to fill it out, or perhaps you have a mini skein kit already waiting.
I can’t wait to see the colour scheme you dream up.
