I frequently make knitted washcloths or dishcloths as gifts, using charted designs that I have created. I can rarely find exactly the pattern I want, so I just create it.

This pattern is a simple outlined flower with 6 petals and 3 leaves. I worked it in a natural colored 100% cotton yarn for the washcloth as pictured. It has a seed stitch border, 3 stitches wide, all the way around.

The pattern works well with 100% worsted weight cotton yarn such as ‘I Love This Cotton’ or ‘Peaches and Creme’ cotton. The pattern makes a 10” x 10” knitted square when lightly blocked. I think the textured design is more apparent with solid colored yarn than with multicolored.

I have used smaller needles (US 6) and made a slightly smaller square to embellish a pillow by outlining the design with duplicate stitch embroidery. I suggest you always check your gauge if the size is critical.
