The Frosting Shawlette is pattern Five from the Sweet Treats Collection.

This shawlette is the frosting to your wardrobe, a simple little confection to top it all off. The idea behind this design was to capture delicate feminine details without going decadently over the top.

At first glance at the directions you might not think this pattern belongs to a collection of simple knits. However, once you get going (and most especially after Row 15) your knitting should become pretty intuitive. The Bird’s Eye edging that adorns the “V” (increase) edge of the shawlette is a six-row repeat. In an effort to help keep this clear during the set up rows I have placed a line break to show the repeats of this section.

Skill Level: Frosting is a good choice for adventurous beginners and experienced knitters alike. Instructions are written to take the knitter step-by-step through the design with a continual row numbering system. Techniques used include beading (instructions provided), yarn overs, make 1 increases (instructions provided), knit front and back, decreases (k2tog and ssk), and sewn bind off (optional with instructions provided).

Construction: The Frosting shawlette is worked using side-to-side construction. A garter stitch lace adorns all edges of the shawlette. Spaced evenly throughout the lace are seed bead accents (beading instructions provided). If the knitter prefers a plainer piece the beads and ribbons can easily be left unworked.
