Gentleman's Drawers

by Weldons

From Weldon’s Practical Knitter, Eleventh Series, page 6, illustration on page 7, originally published c. 1888. This pattern can also be found in Interweave Press’s facsimile edition of Weldon’s Practical Needlework, Volume Four.

“The drawers…knitted with petticoat wool are very thick and warm, and most comfortable for gentlemen to wear as an extra garment in the winter. Should petticoat wool be considered too heavy 5-ply fingering may be employed.” The pattern calls for “four steel knitting needles No. 12” which in modern needle size would be 2.5mm/US2.

The pattern is entirely in text. There are no charts. Since it is an historical pattern, there is no gauge, either.
