This hat is a great one for beginners to tackle or anyone who wants to knit a quick and simple but texturally complex hat. It’s unisex and reversible for 2 different looks (one side has columns of raised ribs and the other large chunky loops of “faux stockinette stitch” without having to change needle sizes!). You can even add a pom pom to the top if you wish. It’s super-versatile and goes great with anything.

The hat is knit flat and sewn up in the final step. You will need about 100 to 140 yards of Worsted weight yarn to make the hat with. You can make it in one solid color or have the bottom edge in a contrasting color than the rest of the hat.

I named it the Greenpoint Beanie because it reminds me of the easygoing hipster style that many Brooklynites favor. For those who don’t know, Greenpoint is a section of Brooklyn. Being a native New Yorker, one of my favorite pastimes is just walking through the City and sightseeing. I enjoy doing this in Philly as well and this is the perfect hat for the job. Also, the color of the hat I made just happens to be green. :) You can make it in any color or colors you wish though.

The finished hat will fit head sizes from 21” to 24” and is very stretchy due to its ribbed design.
