Garter stitch lovers? This one is for you!

I smell snow is a modern take on Shetland haps. I have used two very modern and delightful yarns for this piece: La bien Aimée, Merino Singles, and Eden Cottage yarns, Titus (both are fingering weights).

Construction-wise I omitted the traditional lace border and decided to play with garter stitch and eyelets instead. The eyelets are worked gradiently which makes the knitting relaxing and engaging. Before you know it, it’s time to switch to the next color. The second section is mirroring the first one, which means that you repeat the exact same steps as in section 1 with the exception that you decrease in pattern, aka the rows are getting shorter and shorter!

It’s a delightful knit for when you just want to sit on the couch and knit a few rows in front of your favourite show.

Once you’ve completed the knitting part and bound off your last stitch, you have the option to add mini tassels like I did in the sample. I think they add such a nice touch to the finished shawl (and they are a lot of fun to make!).
