This cowl was originally designed for Lang’s ‘Mia’. It will work in most Aran weight yarns, however, as long as the tension/gauge is checked.

The versions shown were made in Coldharbour Mill’s Pure Wool Aran (blue), Mirasol ‘Miski’ (kingfisher), Lang’s ‘Mia’ (fawn) and John Arbon Organically Farmed Falkland Merino (cream).

The length may be increased, either by adding rounds of stocking stitch to the top and bottom panels in equal numbers ( i.e.-two to the top, two to the bottom), or one or more full repeat/s of the four round slip-stitch panel. Bear in mind that such increases will affect the yarn requirement.

The Mirasol and Lang yarns both contain Alpaca, and come in 50 gram balls. Both of these versions were knitted as per the pattern, and took most of the ball.I

The John Arbon and Cold Harbour yarns are both pure wool, and come in 100 gram skeins. Both of these were made longer, and took roughly 3/4 of each skein. The fabrics were noticeably firmer.
