Pinafore is the formal name for an apron with a bib.
While they can adorn dolls, trees and dishwashing
liquid bottle, they were created to wash
dishes or whatever else you choose. The top loop mimics
a dress strap, enabling them to be hung to dry,
as well as dress vaguely person-shaped bottles.
They provide another way to use up small
amounts of yarn, give a unique hostess gift or try
some new stitch combinations.
