FR

ENG

Katharine is a two-colored boxy sweater, with a stranded color work band in the center. The diamond shaped color work was inspired by Czech lace on house linens, especially from Bohemia where my maternal grandmother comes from.
The sweater is worked with 25 cm of positive ease to be worn cropped over a dress or high-waisted pants. The color work band is repeated at the sleeve cuffs.

Difficulty level: 3/5

The photographed sample is worked in size 36 in Orri (non superwash Merino-Romane) by The Woolly Skein, in the Boudiou (pink) colorway for the MC, and Poutou (copper) for the CC.

Gauge:
10x10 cm (stockinette stitch in the round – 3.5 mm needles): 26 stitches x 32 rows.
Check gauge swatch recommendations in annex 1.

Circular needles: (with different cable lengths)
3.5 mm and 3.25 mm, or size needed to obtain gauge.

Notions:
Coton yarn for provisional cast on
Cable or yarn to put stitches on hold
4 mm crochet
2 stitch markers
Optional: several stitch markers to separate the colorwork repeats.

Construction:
Katharine is a top down dropped shoulder sweater.
The two half fronts are worked separately from a provisional cast on with the main color, before being joined at the neckline.
The back is worked in stockinette stitch from the provisional cast on.
The front and back are joined to knit the body in the round, with a stranded color work band in the middle, before continuing in stockinette with the contrasting color.
The hem is worked in a 4/4 twisted rib.
Stitches are picked up at the neckline, and the same rib pattern is worked for the collar.
Stitches are also picked up for the sleeves, which are knit in the round in the first color. The sleeves are finished with a smaller color work band, before the same rib pattern as the body.
