This is a great weekend project or project to take on the go, as every row is worked the same. Once you have the stitch down this is a perfect project to work on out and about as no complex pattern to constantly refer to.

This scarf sports a lofty stitch, great for extra snugly warmth. This is a dual sided scarf, meaning this stitch allows for an attractive scarf from both sides. There is no right or wrong side and both sides look the same. Perfect for looping around you on a cold winters day.

This scarf can be worked as a double cowl (infinity scarf) as shown, as a single cowl, or as a traditional scarf.

Yarn and notions:
Use bulky weight yarn and size 11 needles.

I like to use 24 inch size 11 circular needles, but you may use what you prefer.

300-400 yards bulky weigh yarn, 8 wpi. For this project you can use one color or two different colors like the one pictured. For two tone use approx 150 yards of contrasting color and 200 yards of main color. For a shorter cowl cut yardage roughly in half.

Yarn used for pictured scarf was black 100% BFL, white 100% Merino, hand spun by me, 8 wpi, with contrasting splatters of color from the other roving in each color.

This can be knit by using two strands of worsted such as Fishermans wool, held together and knit two strands at a time.

Gauge:
4 knots and 12 stitches = 2 inches.

Note:
This pattern is written to provide options for a cowl, a double cowl/ infinity scarf, or a traditional scarf.

Scarf used the knot stitch.

Instructions provided for the knot stitch, but you may find searching for a video more helpful if you are not familiar with this stitch.

Techniques used:
provisional cast on
knot stitch
slipping a stitch
Kitchener stitch

Alternately for a traditional scarf you will need:
long tail cast on, or favorite method
knitted bind off
