This hat is knit flat, partially sewn up at the crown using the Mattress technique (explained in the pattern) and then laced up on the side like a corset. This fun yet classy hat is soon to become your favorite! Incidentally, the name “Laces Out” is a reference to the hilarious movie Ace Ventura Pet Detective.

To make this hat you will need about 175 to 200 yards of Worsted weight yarn.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to use a yarn that is on the thicker side since it will add more structure to the hat. This is one pattern where yarn thickness does matter. Also, make sure you pay attention to your gauge.

I used Malabrigo Merino Worsted yarn in the color Sauterne. I also found that Lion Brand’s Cotton Ease yarn yields very nice results for this hat as well.

You will also need a tapestry needle to sew the top part of the hat with and some yarn, cord or ribbon to lace the hat up with in the final step.
